Save VS Splurge: High Coverage Foundation

beauty, makeup, foundation, dupe, MAC, studio fix fluid, review, L'Oreal, True Match Foundation, high coverage, acne, flawless skin, youwishyou, dupe splurge or save, 2015,

Blessed be those that don't require a high coverage foundation. I envy you, big time. I covert flawless skin and although at times I feel hopeless and like I'll never get it in my life, high coverage foundation gets me the closest I can be to it. Pretty much every makeup brand on the market offers a high coverage foundation of sorts and over a variety of prices, but, let's be honest, not all foundations were created equal. I've picked my favourite high coverage high street foundation and favourite high end one to give you the low down on whether it's worth the splurge.

Focusing on the high street first of all; one of my favourite high coverage foundations from the drugstore is L'Oreal's True Match Foundation. I was very late to the party buying this for myself as even though I'd read a lot of good reviews, I wasn't really phased about buying it when it was first released. Whilst out and about shopping (see the haul post here) I did end up purchasing it on a whim and I haven't looked back. In many ways I find unexpected favourites the most exciting as they exceed your expectations, and this product definitely falls into that category. On first use I was surprised at how liquid-y it was as some high coverage foundations can be quite dense and I felt in comparison it was almost as if it was watery. Despite this, when it came down to application I was instantly impressed at just how stunning the finish was, especially for the price you pay for this gorgeous foundation.

When it comes to needing a lot of coverage, there are lot of elements that a foundation needs to get right. One of my absolute favourite qualities of this L'Oreal beauty is that it is buildable, making it perfect for any degree of blemish. I typically apply one layer to the whole of my face, and then build more coverage over the areas that need some extra camouflage. This foundation does it flawlessly and increases the coverage whilst still maintaining a natural look. The coverage this gorgeous foundation gives to me rivals that of the high end one in this post; it really is impressive. Whilst it's typically the case that girls that need high coverage foundations have oily skin, that's not always the way it is and this foundation really stands out to me as being a great match for all skin types. You won't be left glowing or dewy with this foundation, but at the same time it doesn't dry too matte, meaning this would be fab even for ladies with dry skin. I have oily skin myself and I find by the end of a shift at work I do need to blot a bit of oil but this does tend to stay shine free for a good six hours which, for a high street foundation, is very impressive. I won't lie, a little does not go a particularly long way and I'm getting through the bottle fairly quickly, but when it's half the price of the next foundation I'm going to be talking about, who can complain?

beauty, makeup, foundation, dupe, MAC, studio fix fluid, review, L'Oreal, True Match Foundation, high coverage, acne, flawless skin, youwishyou, dupe splurge or save, 2015,

Ever since hearing in one of my favourite Youtuber's describe Mac's Studio Fix Fluid as being "like an eraser", I've pretty much been fixated on having it for myself. As a girl who is insecure about her skin, those words echoed through my mind until I finally went out and bought it. I love this foundation, I really do; I try to force myself not to use it every day because it is a bit on the pricey side but nine times out of ten I can't help but reach for it! Over my clear skin, Studio Fix does a breathtaking job of making it flawless; it smooths it over giving an instantly airbrushed look, very much like an eraser. On my problem areas, the coverage is also impressive, my uneven skin tone and redness is gone in a flash and spots are covered. I will admit I do find that L'Oreal's True Match does build slightly better than Studio Fix Fluid, but the coverage it gives is still of an amazing quality and it stays put for a lot longer. If you've got super oily skin or know you're going to be having a long day, then this is definitely something you want to be reaching for as it's got a beautiful, super (but not overly) matte finish and is seriously long lasting. Like seriously. As well as being long lasting, Studio Fix definitely has one up on True Match in the sense that the bottle goes further; which I think is a good trait for any piece of make-up no matter the cost.

I feel like this is the part of the post where I'd say which one I like more over the other, but I can't honestly say I prefer one; I really do love them both. They definitely both have their different strengths and weaknesses but I'd without a doubt say that they are both really good quality high coverage foundations. I'd brand True Match as a dupe for Mac's Studio Fix Fluid in a heart beat as even though it is half the price it really has impressed and done the job to almost identically to the standard of Studio Fix which in my opinion makes it not only a dupe, but a damn good one!

  1. Ah I feel like I'm the only person who really doesn't dig Mac's studio fix! I thought it made me look cakey and completely got rid of any 'glow' on my skin! I've converted to Estee Lauder and am never looking back!

Really well written and helpful review.

  2. I never tried any MAC nor L'oreal foundation but I need to! I've been lusting after True Match for a few months now but with no courage to get it as I have others in my life. I won't resist more I have to say. The Studio Fix sounds like dream skin in a bottle but if True Match does a super similar job I don't think I'll splurge, at least for now. Amazing reviews! xx

    1. Woops. That meant to say that I'm pretty sure all Mac foundations break me out, although I'm going to try out the newest one and hope that it doesn't, because they make amazing foundations! I love the L'Oreal on as well, but it's not my favorite from the drugstore.

  4. I've heard wonderful things about true match, and I keep saying I'll have to give it a go. For some reason, I'm just not a huge fan of MAC. I used to be, but as I've gotten older I find myself avoiding that brand. RIght now I used Make up Forever HD foundation, but I'll have to try to True Match.
