Last Minute Valentine's Day Gift Guide

Like many people today I do the majority of the shopping online, which is a massive convenience for loads of reasons but isn't helpful when I need last minute gifts. In the last week before a gift exchange online shopping is out of the question and hitting the shops is my best bet. Although going out shopping is fun it can be quite hard to find that perfect gift unless you have an idea of what you're looking for; your shopping trip can quickly turn into a flustered nightmare. This Valentine's Day gift guide has a range of gifts that are suitable for both the man or woman in your life that are suitable for a variety of budgets, I hope they inspire your Valentine's shopping and that you have a lovely, romantic Valentine's Day with your partner!

I love getting clothes as a gift but let's be honest, they aren't the most romantic gift ideas in the world. However, buying your other half an outfit or item of clothing to wear on a date together puts a romantic spin on clothing as a gift. On our first Valentine's Day I bought James a gorgeous Ralph Lauren shirt for him to wear when we went out of dinner that evening. Every time he wears it we're both reminded of that evening and I definitely find it's sweet as it now has sentimental value to both of us. Search your local shopping center for a perfect item for your other half to wear out for your Valentine's Day date and it'll be a garment that will become something special to the both of you. Something that I've received from James and will probably love until the day I die is keepsake jewellery. It can be argued that this is quite a 'typical' Valentine's Day gift idea but I'd say that's only because people love receiving them! I personally have my Pandora bracelet and charms but keepsake jewellery can be anything from a pair of earrings to an engraved bangle or a watch. I think the great thing about keepsake jewellery is that there is such a variety available, suiting every person's individual style and no matter what your taste is it's something that you can cherish forever.

An alternative to gifts that are actual items, experience gifts are always something that little more unique that are guaranteed to create fond memories. I think what puts people off about buying this as a gift is they think it is always expensive, but that's not the case at all. Debenhams do gift experiences for two starting from £20 and even if you buy online waiting for postage isn't a problem as you can write the gift in a cute card for them to open on the day. Think outside of the box to really surprise the man or woman in your life; search when their favourite bands are playing gigs, see if there are any deals on tickets for a local attraction, are there any shows on at the theater you know they'd like?

When considering what to gift James I never forget the phrase "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach". I've previously bought James a personalized giant cookie from Millie's Cookies on a Valentine's Day, but baking something yourself would be an amazing, thoughtful idea too. Pinterest is my ultimate source of inspiration for cooking and baking ideas and there are plenty of delicious looking Valentine's Day recipes that definitely look gift worthy and easy to recreate. Another DIY gift idea is to make a mixtape. When I think of giving someone a mixtape I think of it as the ultimate old school romantic gesture and there's no denying that it is a thoughtful gift that also has a cheesy, lighthearted element to it. James and I definitely have songs associated with periods of our lives (that song I always used to play in his Saxo, the song we listened to over and over again on holiday last summer) and giving someone a mixtape with all these on will spark old, fond memories.

Whatever you gift your other half and whatever you do to celebrate Valentine's Day, I hope you both have an amazing day filled with romance, laughter and memories.
