Date Ideas On A Budget

As mentioned in my previous post (Hello 2015: Reflections and Resolutions) this year I am determine to save a fair amount of money, but that doesn't mean I don't want to miss out on making more amazing memories this year. At times it can be hard to go out without spending a lot of money, especially on a date as you want to have a really fab time with the person you're with. This year I'm going to have loads of fun thinking of creative ideas for James and I to do without breaking the bank so we can make some great memories in the present whilst also saving for our future.

-PICNICS-

Picnics are such sweet, romantic dates that are often overlooked but they are fantastic alternatives to expensive dinners and are a lot more intimate. Fill a basket or cooling bag with a few snacks and a bottle of wine (nothing expensive and lavish required) to share and head to a beautiful spot in your town to enjoy your surroundings and each other's company.

-MOVIE NIGHTS IN-

Going to the cinema can be quite expensive these days and a massively cheaper alternative is buying a few 2nd hand films from CEX and enjoying a night in watching films. Light a few candles, cuddle up on the sofa, relax and watch your film(s) of choice. The majority of films from CEX are under £5, only the really new ones are more, and most stores have a massive selection to choose from, plus it's not a problem if you talk all the way through the film!

-GETTING TO KNOW YOUR TOWN-

If the weather doesn't quite look nice enough to sit down for a picnic, wrap up warm and have spend a day exploring. This doesn't having to fork out £££ to go to a popular tourist attraction but just exploring the ins and out and nooks and crannies of your local town. We recently moved to Brighton so we have heaps of opportunity to find places we don't know, but even if you've lived in an area all your life there's always more to discover. It could be a scenic walking route or a cafe that serves the tastiest hot chocolates ever, don't underestimate the enjoyment there is attached to just wondering and seeing.

-EXERCISE-

This doesn't mean going on a 5k run together but a stroll in the park, cycle or game of tennis together are great ways to spend some quality time together. While you can't really label a workout sesh together a 'date' but an activity where you can still interact is perfect. Depending on your personality a competitive game may be more up your street, or something leisurely where you can take things a bit easier will suit you more; either way some sort of exercise will get both your endorphins flowing without breaking the bank.

-THEMED FOOD NIGHTS IN-

These are probably one of my favourite 'staying in' date nights as they are always different. My personal favourite is Italian night and I know James loves Indian food night but you could do any sort of cuisine you fancy on that particular night. Living together, it's always fun for us to cook together in the kitchen and making an actual night out of it rather than it just being 'making dinner'. When we have a special meal in we usually try to cook something a bit different that we wouldn't usually make on a day to day basis so it's a bit of an exciting challenge and something to get engaged with and therefore engaged with each other.

Dates don't always have to cost a shed load of money and sometimes the best memories are made when you go back to basics and you can enjoy each other's company a lot more.

  1. I love all those ideas, especially the last one it's worth trying for! Me and my boyfriend Jonathan are also trying to save some money and it really is quite hard to know what to do on date nights when you try to keep your budget :) Thanks for this post!

  2. My boyfriend and I try to regularly make a nice dinner together, we're making a veggie lentil stew tonight :) I always think it's much easier in summer when the weather is nicer to just spend a day outside with music, food and the sun! :)

  4. I love all of these ideas, the film one is especially good if you have Sky Movies or Netflix, as you can get loads of older releases that you may never have watched for free. The themed food night is such a great idea too. x
