How To Become A Morning Person

How To Become A Morning Person

I'm not a very good morning person. I've definitely got better, and I'm definitely better when I don't have a lecture to get to, but my ultimate goal and desire is to be a full on morning person; on my days off I want to be able to wake up refreshed, get up and go which is easier said than done. However, with time I feel like I am becoming a lot more of a morning person which in turn allows me to have a much more productive day, here are some of the things I've been trying to do to ensure that I make the most out of my mornings.

-MAKE A DO TO LIST THE NIGHT BEFORE-

I do this every single night and I swear to Jesus it's what gets me up in the morning. Knowing how much I have to do throughout the day is a massive motivator for me to get up and started; I love nothing more than completing a to-do list it's so bloody satisfying. Having a clear vision of what you need and want to get out of your day will keep you progressive, positive and organized so if you don't already do this please start, it's such a good habit to get into.

-DO SOME MORNING EXERCISE-

This doesn't have to mean 30 minutes of hardcore cardio, even something simple like 50 squats is perfect just to wake yourself up. Exercise is the best way to get your blood flowing and stimulate your brain and body as well as keep fit so don't skip it as this is the best time of day to do your exercise as you'll reap the most benefits. Break a sweat and earn your shower, as they say!

-KEEP HYDRATED-

It's important to stay hydrated throughout the day so when you wake up in the morning after 6-8 hours without water you're not dehydrated. Apart from being bad for your skin and general well-being, being dehydrated can make you feel more tired than you actually are. You want to be able to wake up and feel woken up, so drink plenty to make yourself feel more alive of a morning.

-GET ENOUGH SLEEP BUT NOT TOO MUCH-

Seems ridiculous but there is such a thing as too much sleep. Yup, sometimes I find that if I let myself have too much sleep my body gets used to it and I get super lazy and generally feel more tired. If you're going to bed at a decent time, you shouldn't need to wake up later than 11 so set an alarm just to rouse you from your slumber at a decent time in the morning.

-GET READY-

Even if you have nowhere to go, getting up and getting ready will kick start your day. I'm not saying put on a full face of make-up on but shower, cleanse your face, do your hair (even if it's just into a ponytail) and get dressed. Staying in your pjs is allowed every once in a while but getting ready and dressed will get your mind out of relax mode and into productive mode.

-KEEP THE TV OFF IN THE AM-

It can be next to impossible to ignore Twitter of a morning (and frankly I don't want to, I want to know what's trending!), but the TV is best switched off. Turning the tele for a bit of 'background noise' whilst getting ready can result in it becoming a distraction and breaks your focus on the important tasks you've got planned for the day. Put a relaxing CD on or even a playlist on Yoututbe if you fancy some sounds in the background but TV is an awful distraction, don't do it!

To anyone who is like me trying to become more of a morning person I wish you good luck and I hope these tips will help you make the transition as much as they are helping me.

  1. I totally agree with all of those. Sometimes I can be a wonderful morning person and sometimes I'm the worst person in the mornings. I'm definitely going to be using these tips more regularly in the hope that they'll help! :)

  2. Some great tips here! I became a morning person when I left my undergrad and started my postgrad and have to be in the lab every morning at 8 am! If you're still at uni my advice would be to enjoy not having to be a morning person while you still can because it won't last forever!

  6. Making a to-do list the night before the is the best advice apart from getting an early night. If you wait until the day of you don't end up writing it until midday. At least I don't anyway. :D Amy x
