L'Oreal Skin Perfection Exfoliator

L'Oreal Skin Perfection Exfoliator
L'Oreal Skin Perfection Exfoliator

The majority of my readers will know that earlier this year my skin had a huge breakout that lasted for almost five months. During this flare up, I halved the amount of products I used in my skincare routine in an effort to try and calm my skin down and find the root of my badly behaved skin. My complexion has improved quite a bit in the past few months and as my blemishes began to diminish and my breakouts less frequent I've dared to open up my skincare drawer and pinch an old favourite to reintroduce to my regular skincare routine.

I bought L'Oreal's Skin Perfection Exfoliator a while back, literally after it had just been released and quickly fell in love with it. It made my skin radiant, smooth and energised so you can imagine my excitement to finally use it again after months of only allowing the bare minimum to touch my skin. Previously, I'd use this every other day of an evening but I only wanted to use this once or twice a week in fear of upsetting my newly sensitive skin by using a new product too often.

On first use I felt a massive sense of nostalgia as my skin felt polished and gleaming, so I went about my day as usual feeling pretty pleased with myself that my skin finally seemed ready to settle back in with some of my usual products. Days passed and I noticed small but ignorable blemishes popping up on my face but with my complexion issues this wasn't really any worry to me.

Then something happened. After second use, that evening I felt a small stinging on my cheek which I ignored and went to bed without looking at. Morning came and my face hurt. Man, you know when a spot hurts so much it's like a constant dull sting? Well, that. It was painful, big and red and on my face. Unlike the other small blemishes I'd had which I could brush off, this was not something normal, desirable or ignorable and I knew there was a reason for this sudden monstrous growth on my face. After coming home that night I went straight to my skincare drawer to dig out L'Oreal's Exfoliator and flipped it over to read its ingredients list. I've never known anything about skincare or make-up ingredients but I decided to quickly search skincare ingredients to avoid just to double check that there was nothing nasty in this product that my newly sensitive skin would not like. I was actually pretty surprised to see there were two ingredients (sodium laureth sulfate and artificial fragrance) that were flagged up on a list of 'bad' ones as I'd never had a problem with this product before my skin's flare up.

Seeing those ingredients and obviously seeing the eruption of blemishes on my face was enough for me to safely say I won't be able to use this again. It is sad because I got on with it so well before and if your skin isn't sensitive this might work well for you as it did for me a while back, but if you know your skin is prone to flare ups especially after interaction with certain ingredients then I would steer clear.

You guys might think I'm not giving L'Oreal's Exfoliator a good enough second chance but those massive warning bells are enough for me to stay clear. All I'm saying is don't fuck with my skin!

  1. I've never used this before and was up for giving it a try until it you had a bad reaction with it! I've recently found myself trying to look at what it is in the skincare products that I use as even though I don't have particularly sensitive skin I try to be careful what I use! I don't know what is in it as I only have a sample size but I've been loving the Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser, the muslin cloth exfoliates your skin a little and it makes my skin feel really nice, so that's always another you could try! But obviously i'd check to make sure there were no 'bad' ingredients first! :)

  3. Oh I love exfoliators, but the kind that is soft. Nothing is worse than an exfoliator with huge beads to itch & irritate my skin!!! I'm sorry this one didn't work for you lovely!
